About Mother Birth & Baby

I have had a passion for babies and childbirth ever since I was pregnant with my son and began reading in preparation for giving birth. In the beginning, I did not know that there was any alternative to giving birth than the typical American birth - hospital bed, drugs, and so on. As I began to read, my eyes were opened to the wider world of possibilities for giving birth.

I knew as soon as I began reading about doulas that I wanted one to help me with my birth, so my husband and I began the search and hired one. She helped us tremendously; without her, I don't know how I could have managed. Having two people there with me, one on either side, supporting and caring only for me, nonstop throughout labor, was such a blessing.

After the birth of my son, I began to think about becoming a doula myself. I wanted to share that incredible gift of love, support, and comfort with other women. Now that I am a doula, I am even more convinced that this is a gift I am meant to share. I want to help women give birth, to help them - to help you - have a satisfying, empowering birth experience. I am a passionate believer that childbirth is a normal, everyday occurrence with phenomenal power to change the lives of those who experience it, however I recognize that "normal" is a concept that varies from woman to woman, and the qualities that make a birth satistying vary as well. Regardless of whether you want an unmedicated birth or a medicated one, an intervention-free birth or if you don't care what interventions happen, I will support you with love and a gentle touch. My goal as a doula is to make your birth experience positive and empowering, no matter what happens once those first contractions begin.

I am excited to help you. Please contact me with any questions you might have. I am more than happy to meet with you to discuss your needs in a doula.

Certification and Experience I am a Certified Labor Doula with CAPPA, the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association. I began training with CAPPA in 2004 and completed my certification in 2006.

In September 2005 I attended a one-day workshop on the use of massage/touch in pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. Workshop sponsored by Borne, Inc in Cincinnati, Ohio.

In April 2006 I attended a Lamaze Breastfeeding Specialist workshop.

As of October 2006, I had attended 12 births. With those 12, I have experienced a wide range of births - natural and unmedicated vaginal birth, medicated birth, and ceasarian section, both planned and unplanned. I have had client who used the Bradley Method and Hypnobirthing. After October 2006 I took some time off from doula work while I was pregnant the second time and during my baby's first year.
